Description
A waste management system is an organization's approach to trash disposal, reduction, reuse, and prevention. Recycling, composting, incineration, landfills, bioremediation, waste to energy, and waste minimization are some of the waste disposal options available.
In 2016, the worlds' cities generated 2.01 billion tons of solid waste, amounting to a footprint of 0.74 kilograms per person per day. With rapid population growth and urbanization, annual waste generation is expected to increase by 70% from 2016 levels to 3.40 billion tons in 2050. Residents of poor economies, particularly the urban poor, are more adversely affected by poorly managed waste than those in industrialized economies. Over 90% of garbage in low-income nations is dumped in uncontrolled dumps or burned in the open. These habits have major effects for one's health, security, and the planet. Waste that is not properly handled acts as a potential source for viruses and bacteria, makes a significant contribution to global climate change by producing methane, and can even fuel urban violence.
